The Labour Group is at its largest in half a century of Trafford Council history after a dominant day in the local elections.
The leading group retained all of its seats and took two seats from the Conservative Group in Broadheath Ward by a margin of six votes and in Manor Ward by a margin of 30 votes.
Ulrich Savary unseated Kaushik Chakraborty in Broadheath Ward while Keleigh Glenton unseated Rupali Paul in Manor Ward leaving the official opposition with eight seats in total.
As recently as 2018 they were in control of the council with 34 seats in total before collapsing over the course of six years.

Tom Ross, the leader of the council, said: "It has taken a lot of hard work to get us where we are today. I am thrilled we are the biggest party and the biggest we have ever been in the Borough of Trafford.
"I am thrilled to see two new councillors – Ulrich Savary who won by six and Keleigh Glenton who won by 30 – they'll be amazing councillors and we'll continue to work hard on the behalf of our residents."
The Green Group and the Liberal Democrats remain on six seats apiece. They fought the Conservative Group in Bowdon Ward and Hale Barns and Timperley South Ward but both fell short.
Lisa Hancock held onto Bowdon Ward against the challenge of Bridget Green and Michael Taylor held onto Hale Barns and Timperley South Ward against the challenge of Marc Ramsbottom.

Shaun Ennis, the leader of the Liberal Democrats said: "The Liberal Democrats have had another solid set of results in our target seats. Meena Minnis and Simon Lepori were re-elected with huge majorities in Timperley [Central and North]. They deserve the support they received because they are hard-working local champions who never take their community for granted.
"We've taken the fight to the Tories in their stronghold of Hale Barns and we've run them close. I want to thank our candidate, Marc Ramsbottom, he is a superb campaigner and he did us proud."
