The Trafford Wharfside Development Framework and Draft Trafford Wharfside Masterplan are due to go to public consultation in early March following Trafford Council’s executive on February 26th. The plans would see an upheaval of the area, which is mostly occupied now by businesses, into a bustling metropolis with up to 5,000 new homes on 215 acres between the Old Trafford stadium, Manchester Ship Canal, and Europa Way.

The Development Framework seeks to deliver:

– A landscape led approach to incorporate a range of high quality public realm including pedestrian / cycle routes

– Integration and enhancement of established and new public transport networks

 – Enhance employment and innovation opportunities

 – A mixture residential-led mixed use development

Most of the homes are reserved for an area called ‘Wharfside Heart.’

As set out in the plans, this would be a new neighbourhood, with family-oriented amenities such as a a park, primary school, and some retail space.

The plans do acknowledge, however, that it is not likely all of the homes can be built in the 15-year timeframe. They are hoping that 2,500 could be built in the timeframe.

What do you think about the plans?
