An appeal has been launched to track down a man after a £500 betting slip was stolen in Stretford before being cashed in.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) shared today on social media that they are investigating the theft of the betting slip.

At around 11.50am on Thursday, January 4, the slip was stolen on Chester Road in Stretford.

The slip and would have won the owner £750 but, instead, it was later cashed out for £400 in Manchester city centre.

Police have now shared a photo of a man they believe may hold vital information and have logged a crime for theft by finding.

Neighbourhood Inspector for GMP Scott Wolstenholme said: “The slip could easily have been handed in and has ultimately deprived someone of a large amount of money, and we welcome any information that leads to an arrest.

“We have neighbourhood officers out and about across the Trafford district, so if anyone has any concerns or wants to report a crime, please speak to them.”

Anyone with information can share it with police on gmp.police.uk or by calling 101 and quoting log 2498-04012024.

Alternatively, members of the public can pass on information anonymously by calling the independent charity, Crimestoppers, on 0800 55 111.
