A British Transport Police officer who smashed someone in the face with a glass was sacked from the force.

Niki Minev, who worked in Greater Manchester, was off duty at the time of the assault on October 8, 2022.

British Transport Police said PC Minev smashed someone in the face with a glass causing serious injuries. He was arrested and was charged with causing grievous bodily harm.

The 30-year-old admitted the offence at Liverpool Crown Court last month and he is set to be sentenced next month.

Ahead of the sentencing Chief Constable Lucy D'Orsi considered the case at a tribunal at British Transport Police HQ.

The chief constable said PC Minev's actions amounted to misconduct and he was sacked from the force without notice.

Chief Constable D'Orsi said: "The public expect police officers, both on and off duty, to protect them from violent behaviour. PC Minev did the opposite.

"His violent actions have caused serious injuries to his victim and have harmed the public confidence in policing.

"There is no place in BTP for someone like this.

"I had no hesitation in dismissing him without notice."
