Trafford residents are being reminded that bin collection days will change for two weeks during the festive season.

There will be no collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day.

People whose bins would have been scheduled for collection on Monday, December 25 (Christmas Day), should leave it out for collection on Wednesday December 27.

Residents whose bins would be collected on Tuesday December 26 and Wednesday December 27 , should present their bin  on Thursday December 28.

If the collection day is Thursday  December 28 and Friday December 29, people should put their bin out on Friday December 29 . Friday collections will remain the same during Christmas week.

During Christmas week there will be no green bin collections. Any green bins presented during Christmas week will not be collected. The green bin service will resume in the new year from Tuesday January 2.

For New Year’s week, bins normally collected on Monday January 1 (New Year’s Day) will be picked up on Tuesday January 2, shifting collection days by one day for the week.

People should adjust your presentation day accordingly: Tuesday collections on Wednesday, Wednesday on Thursday, Thursday on Friday, and Friday on Saturday.

Bin collections will resume normal schedules starting Monday January 8 2024.

Residents should check their new 2023-24 bin collection calendar, for alternative collection days during the festive season. This is also available online at www.trafford.gov.uk/bincollections.

With more time at home, residents are producing more household waste and recycling. It’s important to ensure items are recycled and disposed of in the correct bins, say town hall bosses.

Trafford council’s executive member for highways, environmental, and traded services, Coun Stephen Adshead, said: “Our focus this year is to enhance recycling efforts.

“The One Trafford Partnership will collect additional cardboard placed beside your blue bin on the first collection after Christmas. Please separate items like plastic bags and bubble wrap in the grey bin. Recycling correctly not only benefits the environment but also helps allocate funds for essential services.”

Residents can also leave up to two small bags of non-recyclable rubbish beside the grey bin on the first collection after Christmas.

Any extra waste left after this initial collection won’t be collected. Electrical items that contain batteries and wiring should be taken to a recycling centre and not placed in household bins. Items like batteries or disposable vapes can cause fires and put staff at risk.

For households with extra waste, are advised to consider taking it to one of the recycling centres on Chester Road, Stretford, or Woodhouse Lane, Altrincham. These centres operate from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Sunday, excluding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
