An Urmston based charity is fundraising to prevent parent's being faced with an "impossible choice" between food or presents this Christmas.

Urmston Freemasons has partnered with The Forget Me Not Trust, a charity ran by Freemasons feeding the homeless, in hopes of making the season "a bit brighter" for disadvantaged families.

Urmston Masonic Hall will host a donation drop-in to support the campaign, where residents are asked to donate non-perishable foods, new toys, gift vouchers and more, between 9am and 12pm on Saturday.

"No parent should have to make impossible choices between keeping food on the table or wrapping modest gifts for their little ones," said Ezra McGowan of The Forget Me Not Trust.

"We must aid our neighbours when they need it most. We encourage everyone capable to please donate what items or funds you can this Saturday the 16th at Urmston Masonic Hall 1881 Building, on Westbourne Road in Urmston."

Donations will later be distributed by the trust directly to families the charity has identified as 'needing some extra cheer this holiday'.

Last year, the trust provided aid to over 250 households and nearly 1,000 individuals, ensuring hundreds of children received gifts.

In addition to food and new toy donations, representatives from the trust will be on-site accepting monetary contributions from those wishing to give.
