An Altrincham musician who was a familiar face across the area died at the age of 70.

Michael Bracken, or Michael Byron, lived in the town for the last 40 years of his life.

Specialising in Irish music, but at ease with pop music, rock music and more, Mr Bracken was a familiar face across the area, in particular in its pubs, as well as in the likes of Liverpool and Manchester.

He was a fixture at a range of celebrations from birthdays and christenings to anniversaries and weddings.

Away from the limelight, Mr Bracken was interested in genealogy, helping others to trace their heritage.

Messages on social media in the last two weeks described him as an "amazing soul".

Mr Bracken died surrounded by his family in hospital on September 20. He is survived by his wife, Claire, and his four children.

His funeral is on Monday at 12pm at the Bowdon Rooms, The Firs, before a committal for his family at Altrincham Crematorium.
