Residents of Sale and Timperley received access to a Local Link service thanks to funding from Manchester Airport Group (MAG).

It comes after the residents of Partington lost access to the same service in a reshuffle by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM).

The Local Link service allows residents to book a minibus to get to their destination within an area or outside the area to sites such as Manchester Airport and Wythenshawe Hospital.

Residents of Sale and Timperley received access to it last week thanks to funding from MAG.

These areas are deemed underserved by public transport as it stands, according to TfGM, but the Local Link service is now available all day, every day in an attempt to address the issue.

Nick Roberts, TfGM's Head of Non-Franchised and Transition Bus, said: "We are delighted MAG is supporting Local Link, which is a well-used service which benefits communities across our region.

"This funding allows us to extend and to increase the capacity of this service, which will strengthen connections to a key employment site while also benefitting the surrounding local areas more widely."

Alistair Andrew, Strategic Planning and Investment Director at Manchester Airport, said: "We are proud to invest in Local Link, which offers an affordable, flexible option for colleagues and passengers living in our neighbouring communities to reach the airport at all times of day.

"This latest investment is about increasing the service’s capacity, so more residents across a wider area will now have access to it."

The Local Link service is now available all day, every day apart from on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
