A man in his 80s died after a domestic disturbance at an address in Timperley, police said.

The emergency services were called to an address on Riddings Road at 2.30pm on Sunday.

On arrival, a man in his 80s was in a critical condition. He was taken into hospital for treatment but he died a short time afterwards.

Initially, a man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of assault. Today, Monday, the suspect remains in custody on suspicion of murder.

Detective Inspector Lee Shaw, of the GMP Major Incident Team said: "Our thoughts remain with the family of the man who died. 

"Our Family Liaison Officers continue to liaise with them and to ensure they are updated. 

"We launched an investigation to piece together the circumstances surrounding his death.

"I have no doubt the community are shocked and are worried to hear the news about the death of the man, but I would like to reassure them this is an isolated incident and at this stage, we are not currently looking for anyone else."
