A driver who caused the death of a cyclist in a crash on Centenary Bridge received 14-month sentence.

Ravi Ratthore, of Lime Crescent in Old Trafford, was sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court this week.

Ratthore, 22, was charged with causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving and driving other than in accordance with a licence after the incident a year and a half ago.

The cyclist, Roger Parris, was on the way to work at Creamline Dairies in Trafford Park when he was hit by a Volkswagen Golf on the bridge between Salford and Trafford.

Mr Parris was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died of his injuries. He was in his 60s at the time.

The Parris family paid tribute to the father-of-two and grandfather.

They said: "Roger Parris was a devoted Dad and Grandad 'Pops' with plans for retirement including holidays and trips out in his classic car and motorbike, as well as spending time with his son, daughter, partner Sue and much loved grandchildren. We had plans for the future and it breaks our hearts you cannot fulfil them.

"Roger seized every day. The keen runner, hiker and cyclist had a flare for adventure. Your life was cut short and the realisation you are longer a phone call away is devastating. We will miss you dearly."

Speaking to The Messenger, a colleague of Roger – who wished to remain anonymous – said everyone at Creamline Dairies was 'gutted'.

This was echoed by Andrew Partington, retail operations manager at the site on Mellors Road, who offered his condolences to the family.

Mr Partington said: "The Creamline team were absolutely devastated to hear the news about Roger. Our hearts go out to his family at this awful time and I would like to offer our deepest sympathies.

"Roger was a well-liked and respected part of the Creamline team for 16 years. He will be sorely missed by everyone."

Ratthore was sentenced to 14 months in prison at Minshull Street Crown Court this week. He was banned from driving for three years.
