A man was accused of attempted murder in connection with an alleged stabbing in Urmston.

Michael Canning, of Kingsway Park, was charged with attempted murder over the weekend.

The charge is in connection with an alleged stabbing in the area a week ago when a man in his 20s was taken to hospital in a critical condition. He was stable after surgery.

Canning, 22, is set to appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court today (June 26).

Previously Detective Inspector Paul Costello, of GMP Trafford, said: "Although this appears to be an isolated attack, there will continue to be extra patrols in the area over the next couple of days, who are there to reassure the community, as keeping them safe remains our priority.

"They can also be approached by anyone who may have any further information which may be able to help us with our enquiries."
