Partington is to receive an £18 million investment after a bid to the 'Levelling Up' scheme was successful.

The sum is set to be spent on the Sports Village, where there is set to be a renovation, as well as in areas including the changing rooms and pump track at the park on Cross Lane.

Trafford Council lodged the bid, 'Partington Regeneration', last summer.

An announcement on the outcome of this round of the scheme, the second round since it was launched in 2020, was scheduled for the end of last year.

On Wednesday, after a number of delays, it was announced 'Partington Regeneration' was amongst the bids in the North West which were successful.

Tom Ross, the leader of Trafford Council, said: “This is fantastic news and gives us the opportunity to significantly improve the health and leisure offer for residents in Partington. We believe these new sports facilities will mean more people taking part in sporting and leisure activities.

“It will also create jobs and provide training opportunities and lead to more investment in the area. It ties in with our corporate priorities of reducing health inequalities and supporting people out of poverty.

“We have worked closely with the community on developing these plans and I must thank them for their support.

“We have other plans for the area as well including improving the transport infrastructure in Partington.

“My administration wants to improve the lives of everyone in the borough and we want to make sure we continue to invest in all areas of Trafford.”

However, two other bids worth a total of £30 million were unsuccessful.

'Connecting Culture' aimed to make improvements to heritage assets such as arts centres, cemeteries, libraries and parks, and to link them together into a heritage trail.

And 'Transforming Sale Town Centre' aimed to make improvements to active travel and public spaces in the town, with particular attention to Ashfield Road, Hayfield Street, Hereford Street, Northenden Road, School Road, Sibson Road, Springfield Road, Town Hall Junction and Waterside Plaza.

Trafford Council was not involved in an initial round of the scheme last year as a result of time constraints.

There is a third round of the scheme still to come, with £3.8 billion from a total of £4.8 billion used to date.
