Libraries across Trafford are holding events this week to raise awareness of the importance of the facilities in the community.

Libraries Week runs until Sunday, October 9 with a host of sessions running until then.

This year's theme is life-long learning to celebrate the role of libraries in continued education for all ages

Altrincham Library

Halloween is just around the corner, but if you can’t wait until the end of the month Altrincham Library has murder mystery event group Highly Suspect who are presenting "Murder on the Disorient Express" on Friday at 7.30pm.

Attendees will have cryptic clues and codes they can use to solve the mystery.

Tickets can be booked through a link on the Trafford Libraries Twitter or Facebook page.

If you find it difficult to access Twitter and Facebook then call to Altrincham Library today, Wednesday, between 2pm and 4pm for their digital workshops – a drop-in session for anyone who needs to brush up on their digital skills.

This event is also in Sale Library from 10am to 12pm today, Wednesday.

Sale Library

Libraries are for more than just lending books, and on Saturday, October 8 Sale Library is offering a beginners knitting class, with no previous experience or booking required.

For those interested in learning more about the lives of their favourite singers and bands, there is a pop-up reader’s group at 5.30pm on Thursday, focusing on music biographies.

Urmston Library

On Friday at 11am, Urmston Library is hosting a book-binding workshops, where you can learn simple techniques to create your very own leather book. There’s even a vegan leather option available

Government statistics show a long-term decline in the amount of people using libraries, with 48 per cent of people in the UK saying they used a library in the past year in 2005/2006, compared to just 34 per cent in 2019/2020.

Libraries Week aims to make them more appealing for residents to use.
