A man who stabbed his brother to death at home in Stretford was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Gilvy Anderson, of Davyhulme Road, stabbed his brother Emile Anderson in the chest with a kitchen knife in April last year.

The emergency services were called to the home and Emile was taken to hospital, but the 50-year-old died due to his injuries.

Anderson, who was arrested in the garden, told officers he 'attacked him because he attacked me'. He later admitted to stabbing Emile using a kitchen knife.

During a trial at Manchester Crown Court this year, jurors were told there was tension for some time between the brothers, who lived on Davyhulme Road with another brother and their mother.

They cleared Anderson of the murder of Emile, but convicted him of manslaughter.

At Preston Crown Court this week, Anderson was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Detective Inspector Neil Higginson, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: "This was a devastating and traumatic incident for the family and was a result of tensions between the two brothers.

"The trial has no doubt caused distress and upset to the family who have had to listen to the details during a trial."
