A Partington single mum is 'trapped' as she and her two-year-old daughter struggle to live in a 'hell hole'.

Angela Atkinson was allocated a home in the town more than a year ago by Your Housing Group, a provider of almost 30,000 properties nationwide.

According to Angela, she and daughter Willow were not able to move in for around six months due to a number of issues.

Angela told The Messenger: "When I went to view it, I questioned them then and there. I questioned whether there was damp and I was laughed at."

She took matters into her own hands after receiving the keys, removing some of the wallpaper to find the damp she feared as well as an infestation.

She said: "The walls looked like they were moving."

After around six months in alternative accommodation, Angela and Willow were able to move in at the end of last year.

But Angela said the issues were covered rather than solved, with both the damp and an infestation of ants and of silverfish a persistent problem.

They were compounded by a leak in the airing cupboard, for which the fix left a hole in the floorboards.

On one occasion, Willow fell into this hole in the floorboards and had bruises and a bump on the head.

Angela said: "There was no apology or anything.

"When I got through to someone, they said it would be a 24-hour job to make it safe. Someone came four days later and put some wood down."

Willow's physical health is deteriorating due to a chest condition and a skin condition, and she now sleeps in her mum's bedroom where the issues with the home are not as severe.

Angela's mental health is struggling and she said she feels like 'a bad parent'.

She said: "I feel guilty as a parent. I feel guilty beyond belief.

"I have been through a lot. I feel like I'm trapped in a hell hole and I don't know what to do."

A spokesperson for Your Housing Group said: "We have been in regular contact with Ms Atkinson since March regarding the flooring in the storeroom and reported damp in the bedroom with repairs completed in May.

"We will continue to work with Ms Atkinson to rectify any outstanding issues."
