A local radio station in Oldham is looking for help to revive one of its much-loved music programmes.

Oldham Community Radio 99.7FM has hosted a popular brass band programme for many years, hosted by well-known local impresario, Gilbert Symes.

The radio station said fans of the “much-missed show” have been asking when it will return and has since recruited two new presenters to help bring it back to life.

However, it has since encountered a problem.

The previous radio host had a large personal collection of brass band recorded music to draw from, but unfortunately, music students Jack and Oliver do not.

As a result, the show is appealing to members of the public and loyal listeners to donate any unwanted brass band CDs.

Unfortunately, it cannot take any vinyl or cassettes.

Ian Wolstenholme from Oldham Community Radio said: “If you do come across any such brass band recordings and would like to play a part in resurrecting an old favourite show, you can drop them into our Tommyfield indoor market studios opposite the Halifax Bank on Albion Street in Oldham town centre any day between 10 am and noon, or 2pm to 4pm.”

Oldham Community Radio has also said any members of a local brass band which is planning any public concerts in the borough should let the station know in advance.

“We would be delighted to come along and record the concert for later inclusion in the forthcoming brass band programme.

“You can send any information (or maybe any albums you've issued previously) to the station as above or concert info to studio@oldhamcommunityradio.com

“We'd love to hear from you and give you some free publicity”, Mr Wolstenholme added.
