A driver who hit speeds of more than 130mph on the M65 on Friday will be getting a date in court soon, police have said.

Officers from Lancashire Roads Police detected the Volkswagen Golf GTD being driven at 134mph along the M65, and have summoned the driver to court.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "To the driver of the Golf GTD we detected travelling at 134mph on the M65 on Friday, you'll be getting an invitation to come and speak with a magistrate.

"Please make sure you bring your bus fare home with you. Driving at speeds like this will not be tolerated."

The speed recorded was almost double the national speed limit of 70mph along the M65, which runs through East Lancashire.
