A man has been left furious after a fibre broadband company dug up the road outside his home "without any communication beforehand".

The resident, who lives in Addison Street, Blackburn, said he was very upset when Grain Connect "just turned up and started digging", which could lead to a loss of earnings for him.

He said: "I am very upset about the internet company, Grain Connect, who are installing fibre cables on Addison Street and in the surrounding areas.

"We have had no communication from the company, they have just turned up and started their work.

"They are digging up the road and laying cables where Virgin and other high speed internet already exist.

"They are creating havoc for the residents, I have spoken to my neighbours who feel the same.

Lancashire Telegraph:

"They are sometimes laying their cables on top of Virgin cables and have have already cut through my neighbour's Virgin fibre cable, who now have no internet.

"I'm concerned they will do the same to my Virgin cable which will create a loss of service for me.

"This is a big concern for me as I am a consultant who works from home, and it is my responsibility to have a good connection. If not, I will lose money.

"We already have high speed internet here, through Virgin, BT and 6G among others, why do we need another?

"My driveway is blocked throughout the day and the quality of the work is horrendous.

"The new tarmac is crumbling away and also not level with the footway, creating a potential trip hazard.

"They are at times working in an unsafe manner, with no barriers around the work site whilst using the digger, a major health and safety concern.

"The kids can no longer play outside until the work is completed.

"On top of all this, I cannot open my house windows in hot weather due to the dust from the cutting of the tarmac and the smell of tarmac.

"I am not happy and would like something done about this. We as residents have a right to not be inconvenienced by these works."

Grain Connect have been contacted for comment.
