Corgis seen throughout the streets of Altrincham in celebration of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee raised an extraordinary £32,500 at an auction last week.

The corgis, which are Her Majesty's pet of preference, were decorated by artists, businesses and others and installed at a range of locations across town.

Once removed, the sculptures were sold during an auction at The Bowdon Rooms, in a change of venue due to the demand to attend the event.

On June 30, £32,500 was raised for artists involved in the event and arts schemes in the town – an average of £650 for each of the sculptures.

Mandy White, the manager of Altrincham's Business Improvement District, which organised 'Trooping the Corgis' alongside Inch Arts, said: "It's been great to work with Inch Arts and Altrincham’s business community on this project and we're delighted with the outcome.

"The project as a whole is a great example of what can be achieved by working in partnership, both in terms of encouraging visitor numbers and supporting an organisation which is a valued asset within our community.

"The coverage achieved has been local, regional, national and the corgis have even been mentioned on global websites."

Jo Cushing, the chief executive of Inch Arts, added: “We're really thrilled that the project has been such a phenomenal success and that the corgis have captured the hearts of so many people.

"We'd like to thank all of the artists involved who did a brilliant job.

"We’re looking forward to working with the community and creating a legacy through public art projects as a result of this event."
