Plans for a Papa John's pizza takeaway in Timperley were approved this week in spite of residents' concerns.

The chain, which has more than 450 takeaways, including in Sale and Urmston, submitted an application for a site on Shaftesbury Avenue in March.

Previously a convenience store, the site opposite the Hare and Hounds and next to Theo's Fine Kettle of Fish has been unused for a number of years.

But Papa John's applied to turn it into a pizza takeaway open from 10am to as late as midnight on some days.

Residents at three properties commented on the plans to express concerns about a range of issues, from the risk of anti-social behaviour to the number of takeaways in Timperley already.

They also described issues with noises, odours, traffic and waste.

A resident on Stockport Road said: "We would not like another takeaway on this parade of shops. We do not consider that this development is either necessary or wanted locally.

"Please consider all the local residents in their quest for peace and quiet after 10pm."

And a resident on Seymour Grove said: "There is already one takeaway and mini mart on this block, so two will be overkill.

"The village, which is around half a mile away, has a number of takeaways, along with two on Wood Lane."

Another resident on the same road added: "I believe that to accept this application would have a negative impact on the area, with roads, residents and public health all impacted."

In spite of these concerns, Trafford Council's planning officers recommended the application for approval.

It was then approved this week, subject to conditions.

A report said: "The proposed hot food takeaway would be appropriate within the context of this row of commercial units facing the main road.

"The noise and odour considerations are considered acceptable subject to conditions and the design of the external alterations is appropriate. The application is recommended for approval."
