A school in Sale won one of two awards for which it was shortlisted at the Times Educational Supplement (TES) Schools Awards.

Lime Tree Primary Academy was shortlisted for 'Early Years Foundation Stage Setting of The Year' and 'SEND Provision in a Mainstream Setting of the Year', and won the latter at an event at The Grosvenor in London.

The school, which is a part of Bright Futures Educational Trust, was praised for its support to SEND students and to their families.

Margaret Mulholland, one of the judges, said: "The unique element of Lime Tree was not just the very detailed case studies of impact over time but, more than anything, the outward-facing role they perform in terms of building partnerships to reach both the child and the family and wrap around them, with this notion that it's not just the child that has got a place at the school, but the family."

Responding to the award, head Clare Larkin said: "We were delighted to have been shortlisted for these coveted awards but to actually win an award is such amazing recognition for the whole Lime Tree family.

"It really is a team effort at school and I would like to say a massive thank you to our wonderful students, staff, parents, carers and, of course, the wider community.

"We are truly committed to ensuring all our children are supported with whatever it takes to help them thrive.

"Through careful nurturing of each child using creativity, innovation, and academic challenge within our school setting, which includes a farm and two Forest School areas, we make this happen. We are so grateful to our community and partners too who help us to achieve this.”

Danielle Lloyd, lead assistant head and special educational needs coordinator, added: “I can’t believe we’ve won this award. We are absolutely relentless in getting the best for our students. We never put a ceiling on them.”

Another school in Sale, Moorlands Junior School, was shortlisted for two awards, but it missed out on 'Primary School of the Year' and one of its staff Diane Eccles missed out on 'Teaching Assistant of the Year'.
