A restaurant's renewed attempt to place a takeaway in its car park was blocked by Oldham Council this week after residents suggested its application was 'a re-hash' of its initial attempt.

The new application for a structure in the car park of Nandini on Manchester Road was submitted to the council on March 18, around three months after the old application was refused.

Reasons for the refusal of the old application included issues such as the smell of hot food from the takeaway, as well as parking and traffic.

And residents said these issues were still relevant to the new application, which some suggested contained no changes other than the position of the structure within the car park.

One comment reads: "Save for the unit being re-positioned, this application is no more than a re-hash of [the application] which was refused permission by the planning officers."

This is echoed in another comment, which reads: "We cannot see anything in the application, apart from turning the container 90 degrees, putting it against the wall of the restaurant and connecting it to the mains, that makes a difference to how we and our neighbours feel about it.

"I cannot stress our displeasure that, once again, we are in the position of having to go to these lengths to try to stop this application being granted after the last one was refused.

"For all the above, we very strongly disagree with the application and we hope sense will prevail."

Oldham Council appeared to agree with these residents and refused the new application for the same reasons as the old application.

The refusal, dated June 16, reads: "The development has potential to cause nuisance smells to the detriment of residents, particularly the residents of the flats to the west of the site and occupiers of the HMO above Nandini."

It adds: "The on-street parking and manoeuvring of vehicles generated by a hot food takeaway in the near vicinity of a traffic signal-controlled junction on a strategic route through the borough will be detrimental to traffic flow and to the safety of other users of the highway and other nearby highways."
