ELTON’S Jonny Birkett top scored with 51 runs as his side secured victory by just one run at Dukinfield in the Greater Manchester Cricket League Championship division.

Batting first, Elton made 147 thanks mainly to Birkett’s half-century.

In reply, Dukinfield fell agonisingly short at 146 all out thanks to top bowling from Elton’s Gareth Edwards (4-31) and Kieran Grundy (3-40).

In the Premiership, Walshaw beat Woodbank by four wickets after the visitors had made 189-9.

Woodbank’s total saw Ryan Barker top score with 52, with Walshaw’s Shahrukh Khan taking 4-58.

He then hit an unbeaten 55 in the hosts’ reply and Saif Bhojani top scored with 69 as the hosts reached 190-6, Barker (2-35), Chalana De Silva (2-63) and Hayden Goulstone (2-46) sharing the wickets for Woodbank.

Prestwich also won in the top flight, by 168 runs against Moorside.

They hit 256-4 thanks to big knocks from James Wharmby (75), Aaryaman Roy (66no) and Dan Pawson (49).

Moorside were skittled for just 88 thanks to 6-32 from Nathan Bailey.

In Premier Two, Brooksbottom fell to a seven-wicket defeat against Greenfield (133-3).

Brooksbottom made 131, with Mohsan Iqbal (39) and Dom Gowers (36) top scoring.

Iqbal then took 3-53 in Greenfield’s reply.

Bury were also beaten, by 187 runs at Flowery Field.

The hosts made 264-9 with Aneeq Hassan taking 3-44 before Bury were all out for just 77.

Stand enjoyed better fortune with a seven-run victory at Shaw.

They made 144-9 thanks to Dylan Faram’s 33 before he took 3-32 with the ball, supported by Chris Williams (4-47), Adam McGladdery (3-52) as the hosts were out for 137.

In Division One, Edenfield scored 157 in their 66-run win against Golborne (91) with Paul Gallagher scoring 69 and Dan Jenkins taking 7-40 in the reply.

Meanwhile, in Division Two A, Radcliffe fell to a miserable eight-wicket loss at home to Daisy Hill.

Martyn Coates top scored with 20 as they made just 58 before Daisy scored 62-2.

Matthew Partington scored 44 and Ryan Wilkes (4-37) and Louis Birmingham (3-48) shone with the ball as East Lancs Paper Mill scored 163 to beat Worsley (148) by 15 runs.

Niko Brooky took 4-24 and top-scored with 17 for Tottington St Johns (80) in their 90-run loss at Darcy Lever (170).
