POLICE are appealing for information after a teenage girl was bitten by a dog in Altrincham.

The incident occurred in Navigation Park at around 9pm yesterday (May 17) and involved a 17-year-old girl.

According to police, the girl was helping a man to put a harness onto his dog when she was bitten in the face.

The man is described as white, around 70 years old and unstable on his feet.

He was wearing a long, brown leather jacket and a bobble hat and also using a walking stick.

Meanwhile, the dog is described as white with a small amount of ginger on its back and similar to a labrador.

It might have been around two years old and it also had a red harness.

The girl was taken to hospital with injuries to her mouth and cheek, which police said were 'substantial'.

They are now appealing for information about the identity of the man or about the incident.
