A TRAFFORD councillor is hoping it will be third time lucky as she has been selected to take on Sir Graham Brady at the next general election.

Trafford’s former Green Party Group leader and Altrincham councillor, Cllr Geraldine Coggins, has been chosen by the Green Party to fight for the Chairman of the 1922 Committee’s seat of Altrincham and Sale West.

Cllr Coggins was first elected to Trafford Council in 2018 and will be standing for her party in the seat for the third time at a general election.

She said: "The next election isn’t due to take place until 2024, but we live in very uncertain times and we can't rule out another snap election.

"Residents tell me how let down they feel by Graham Brady and by Boris Johnson’s government. People have been worried about Brady’s attitude to safety around Covid.

"For many people, it was over Brexit that they first realised they didn’t have an MP that really represented them. And of course Brexit continues to unfold as an expensive and damaging mess, while the climate emergency is at risk of being ignored.

"Other parties threw huge resources at this seat last time around, but barely shifted the dial. We know from our work on the ground, talking to local voters, that the appetite for a fresh new start in politics is growing all the time. We in the Green Party, are offering just that.

"It’s not so long ago that people didn’t think we’d ever even win a council seat here. But we are quickly becoming the strongest political voice in this part of Trafford, because that’s what people here deserve."

Trafford Labour, Trafford Conservatives and Trafford Liberal Democrats were all offered the opportunity to comment and confirm their candidates if possible. No comments were made.
