A HALE resident is inviting all runners to take on a new 10K in the village.

Mark Durston has been hoping to launch an event in Hale for several years.

And on Sunday, February 20, his hopes are set to be realised as around 1,000 runners take to the start line on South Downs Road.

Mark, who is the managing director of event organiser Sensation Group, said: "I’ve been looking for the right time to launch an event in the village. As a keen runner, I have firsthand knowledge of the area and I'm confident we’ve created the perfect 10K route.

"Starting on one of Hale’s most prestigious roads, crossing the iconic railway tracks and running through the heart of the village gives the race a memorable start, with the impressive Ashley Hall providing the perfect grounds in which to finish for an event such as this.

“The north west is home to some of the world’s best sports teams and events. With the Watersons Hale 10K, we’re looking forward to bringing something new to the sports calendar."

As an added incentive to take on the 10K, there is £1,500 to be won, as well as prizes for first, second, and third, plus the male and female winners of the 40+, 50+ and 60+ categories.

All runners receive a medal.

And if 10K is too much, there is a 3K around Ashley Hall on the same day.

Peter Waterson, the managing director of estate agent Watersons, which is sponsoring the event, said: “I'm really proud Watersons has served the people of Hale, Altrincham and the surrounding areas for more than 20 years.

"Having lived in the village all my life, and as a regular Altrincham and District Athletic Club runner, I've wanted to be able to do something for my community and as such the 10K is right up my street.

Entries for the event are now open. All proceeds to go The Toy Appeal. For information or to enter the event, go to hale10k.com.
