A PLAN to create 26 homes in Sale by reshuffling several services in Trafford has been revealed.

The proposal, which involves Stretford Library, Trafford Music Services and the Trafford Mental Health Home Treatment Team (MHHTT), is set to be considered by the council's executive at its meeting on Monday.

According to the plan, Stretford Library will move to a new site in Stretford Mall and Trafford Music Service will move from Sale's Claremont Centre to Stretford Library's current site after improvements are made. Trafford MHHTT will also move from Chapel Road, next to the Claremont Centre, to a new site.

Once the Claremont Centre and its surroundings are vacant, the proposal suggests a redevelopment into 18 apartments and eight townhouses.

A report to go before the council's executive reads: "Vacating the site will leave this available for a proposed residential redevelopment and thus allow the council to generate sufficient capital to invest in the relocation of these services and make improvements to the Stretford Library building."

Built in the 1940s, Stretford Library's current site suffers from damp as well as other maintenance problems estimated to cost more than £80,000 to resolve.

It is a similar story at the Claremont Centre, which is described as 'outdated' and 'unsuitable' for Trafford Music Service to provide its tuition to its students.

The report reads: "The proposed relocation of the Stretford Library within the Mall provides an opportunity to relocate Trafford Music Service within the vacated library building, which will undergo improvements.

"This further provides an opportunity to repurpose the existing building whilst allowing Trafford Music Service to transfer their provision to more appropriate accommodation, thus continuing to support the delivery of the music service to Trafford school children, as part of the council's wider cultural offering."

If the plan is approved by the council's executive at its meeting on Monday, a team is set to be appointed to gather information and generate specifications.

This team's work will cost around £100,000 and last around three months. The proposal does not set a date for the reshuffle and redevelopment themselves.
