A DEVELOPMENT of affordable homes and a community car park in 'one of the most unaffordable parts of the UK' is now open.
The homes, which include 12 apartments and 10 townhouses, are on Brown Street in Hale, next to the train station.
While the car park contains almost 60 parking spaces, plus bike and motorbike parking and electric charging points.
The development is a result of a partnership between Trafford Council, Novo and Laurus Homes, a part of Trafford Housing Trust.
Cllr James Wright, Trafford Council’s executive member for housing and regeneration, said: "We're extremely proud of the Brown Street development as it meets our commitment to providing much-needed affordable housing in the borough. More than 55 per cent of this scheme is made up affordable properties in one of the most unaffordable parts of not just Trafford but the whole of the UK.
"The car park will also be a fantastic asset to the community. Thanks to everyone who worked on and helped to deliver this scheme from the council to Novo and Laurus Homes."
The 12 apartments, eight of them one-bedroom and four of them two-bedroom, are available on shared ownership for as little as £58,750 – 25 per cent of their value of £234,950.
Meanwhile, the value of the average apartment in Hale is in excess of £300,000.
Zac Worthington, Head of Sales at Laurus Homes, said: "Hale is an incredibly popular place to live, so we're pleased to be able to provide affordable homes that will help home seekers get on to the property ladder in the area. We believe it's the first time shared ownership properties have been put up for sale in the village.
“Shared ownership is proving a popular way of buying a home and is available to anyone who doesn't already own a property. As a part of Trafford Housing Trust, we're committed to tackling the housing crisis, and affordable homes are an important part of those ambitions."
