An initial report said a girl was walking home from The Firs Primary School at 4:35PM on Thursday, November 4 when a man approached her from behind and tried to abduct her at the junction of Firs Road and Manor Avenue.

He tried to grab the girl but a couple passing by intervened and the girl was able to escape before the man left in a large white van.

However, police have said that after all lines of enquiry had been exhausted and the victim and her family were spoken to, the investigation has ended.

Detective inspector Helen Bagnall, from Trafford CID, said: "We understand the concern that this incident caused in the local community and would like to thank members of the public who responded to our appeal and assisted with our enquiries.

"Officers carried out a thorough investigation in this case and followed up a number of lines enquiry including meticulous CCTV checks and there is no evidence or information to suggest an attempted child abduction took place and the investigation has been closed."

An e-fit was released the day after the incident of a man they wanted to speak to in connection with the attempted abduction, however there has been no progress on locating him.
