A MAN has been found dead in Sale's Bridgewater Canal this morning.

The emergency services were called to the canal at Marsland Bridge, near to Brooklands Metrolink, at around 7.40am on Thursday, October 14.

They arrived to find the body of a man, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation is ongoing to establish the man's identity and the circumstances surrounding his death.

There are 'no suspicious circumstances' at this time, according to police.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "We were called at 7.40am on Thursday, October 14 to a report of a body in the canal near Marsland Bridge, Sale.

"Police and GMFRS responded and a man was sadly confirmed dead at the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and the circumstances behind the incident.

"There aren’t believed to be any suspicious circumstances at this time."

A spokesperson for GMFRS said: "Just after 7.45am on Thursday, October 14, firefighters were called to an incident near Marsland Road, Sale.

"Two fire engines from Stretford and Sale fire stations, as well as the water incident unit from Eccles and the technical rescue unit from Ashton, attended the scene.

"GMFRS crews were in attendance for around two hours."
