THE president of the Northern Premier League's Trafford FC has been presented with a 50-Year Service Award by the Football Association for his outstanding contribution to non-league football.

David Brown's involvement in football started at Old Urmstonians in the early 1970s.

He moved to Flixton FC in 1985, before becoming a founder of Trafford FC in 1990.

Initially secretary and vice-chairman, he then became chairman and was seen as a driving force behind the club's rise up the football pyramid, as well as the development of its ground, Shawe View.

He relinquished the position of chairman in 2000 when he moved to North Lancashire, but still made the trip down to Trafford FC several times a week, and he was soon made president of the club.

David was presented with his award by John McLellan-Grant of the Manchester Football Association.
