STRETFORD'S first comic festival is coming to the town this weekend – with special guests such as stars from the worlds of Star Wars and Final Fantasy.

Comic Fest will take over Stretford Mall on Saturday between 10am and 4pm.

Organised by Wow Comix, a comic book store with a branch in the Mall, as well as in Bury and Stockport, it is billed as 'a celebration of all things sci-fi'.

It is free, and all are welcome to attend the mixture of comic book stalls, autograph signings and photo opportunities.

Wow Comix owner John Webster said: "We're excited to launch Stretford’s first comic festival.

"Stretford is fantastic – we've really enjoyed being part of the community since last December.

"We think they'll really like our event, as it's a chance to find out a bit more about what we do and to interact with some exciting characters.

"We can’t wait," he added.

Among Comic Fest's special guests are Willie Coppen, who appeared in Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi as an Ewok.

There is also Liam Mulvey, who appeared as Libertus Ostium in two Final Fantasy video games.

Others are comic creator and illustrator David Leach, horror actor Nathan Head and upcoming author Victoria Bates.

People do not have to dress up to attend, but there is a competition for the best-dressed character.
