THE roads in Trafford with the highest number of reports of fly-tipping have been revealed.

Figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act show people made the most reports of fly-tipping on roads in Old Trafford, Stretford, Urmston and Sale between August 2020 and July 2021.

These are, from highest to lowest, Ayres Road (43), Woodsend Road (38), Chester Road (33), Langshaw Street (31), Albion Street (23) and Banky Lane (23).

Of these, Ayres Road, Woodsend Road and Chester Road all made the top five in 2019-2020.

All but Banky Lane in Sale made the top five in 2018-2019.

These figures include repeated reports about the same waste.

Across Trafford, the number of reports of fly-tipping has rocketed by 65 per cent over a year.

People made more than 2,300 reports between August 2020 and July 2021, up from 1,420 reports in the previous 12 months.

Responding to the figures, a spokesperson for Trafford Council suggested a possible link between the rise in fly-tipping reports and the successive lockdowns due to coronavirus.

They also highlighted the range of initiatives introduced to slow and reverse the rise, including a fly-tipping action group, a fly-tipping hotline and CCTV in fly-tipping hotspots.

Meanwhile, Stretford and Urmston MP Kate Green, whose constituency covers all of the roads above, expressed frustration with the figures, but satisfaction with the council's response to them.

She said: "I receive many complaints from residents about rubbish and fly-tipping.

"Fly-tipping is disgusting and anti-social and I am pleased Trafford Council is taking tough enforcement action."

Anyone with information about fly-tipping is asked to call the council's fly-tipping hotline on 0161 912 4152, or to email flytipping@trafford.gov.uk.
