The number of cases of Covid in Oldham is continuing to fall – but only by a small amount.

The latest figures from Public Health England show there were 127 cases found in the town today.

There have been 685 positive tests in the last week, which is a small fall of 0.9 per cent from the seven days before this.

Across the UK cases are rising at a rate of 13.5 per cent.

The rate of Covid per 100,000 people in Oldham is still below the national average, standing at 275.5 in the area compared to 312.6 for the country as a whole.

There were no deaths in Oldham today which came within 28 days of a positive test for the virus.

There have been five deaths in the last week, which is the same number as the previous seven days so the death rate is neither rising nor falling.

Across the UK there were 180 deaths today and the death rate is going up by 0.5 per cent.

The R Rate, the rate at which one person passes the virus onto another, stands at between 0.8 and one in the North West region.

When the figure is below one the virus dies out eventually but above one it spreads exponentially.
