Oldham has recorded no more deaths from Covid – despite a recent rise in the rate of fatalities in the town.

The latest figures from Public Health England show there were no deaths recorded today which came within 28 days of a positive test for the virus.

There have been seven deaths in the last week, which is a rise from four in the seven days before this.

The death rate in the area is therefore rising at a rate of 75 per cent.

Across the UK there were 182 deaths today and the death rate is going up by 3.5 per cent.

There were 106 cases of Covid found in Oldham today.

In the last week there have been 657 positive tests in the area, which is a fall of 4.4 per cent from the previous seven days.

Nationally cases are moving in the opposite direction as they are going up by a rate of 9.4 per cent.

The rate of Covid per 100,000 people in Oldham stands at 273.5, still below the national rate of 302.

A total of 153,655 people in the town have now had a first dose of the vaccine, which is 76.4 per cent of those aged 16 and above.

Of these 139,037 have had a second dose, which is 69.2 per cent of those eligible.
