DETECTIVES are appealing for information after a burglary at a jewellers in Altrincham.
Trafford police have revelealed today that jewellery thieves used a steel saw to cut through the outer security shutters at Pykes on Stamford New Road just after midnight on Monday.
They then used a metal grid to smash the window before entering the shop and ransacking it, stealing a substantial amount of jewellery.
The break-in caused the alarm to sound and when a police patrol car attended the officers saw two masked men fleeing the scene. One of the men threw an iron fire hydrant cover at one of the officers, which hit the police car.
The two men then jumped into a red Honda Civic. Police pursued the car along Regent Road and Hartley Road before the Honda was lost.
Police are now appealing for anyone who may have seen the burglary or who saw the red Honda being driven erratically in the area to come forward.
Anyone with information should contact Stretford CID on 0161 856 9250 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
