Trafford added another scalp to their collection on Tuesday night when they defeated National League North side Chester 4-3 in a pulsating encounter at the Home Estates Shawe View Stadium.

A healthy crowd saw the hosts take the lead in the 10th minute when Max Hazeldine capitalised on an error by Chester keeper Louis Gray to tap in from close range.

Chester levelled seven minutes later when Jamie Morgan made amends for an earlier miss by neatly guiding a cross from the right past Matty Cooper.

Connor Hughes and Matty Morgan both went close for Trafford as the play swung from end to end but it was Chester who netted next when George Waring headed astutely past Cooper from six yards in the 25th minute.

Back came Trafford and Hazeldine struck again when he curled a superb free-kick around the wall and into the bottom corner.

Hazeldine almost competed his hat-trick shortly afterwards when Gray spilled a low drive by Isaac Graham but the busy striker just failed to connect with the rebound.

In the 54th minute the visitors surged ahead once more when a cross from the right was headed into the bottom corner by Waring.

Kevin Roberts should have made it four when he somehow missed from close range but in the 69th minute a great move involving substitutes Darius Palma and Harry Sheridan ended with the latter pulling a low cross for Matty Barlow to blast into the roof of the net to make it 3-3.

Mike Burke and Palma both went close in the dying minutes and Barlow was unlucky to see his drive from long-range strike the post.

However, in the 88th minute Morgan seized upon a loose ball and cracked a great low drive from 25 yards into the bottom corner to give Danny Caldecott’s young side a tremendous victory.

On Tuesday, Trafford are in action once more at the Home Estates Shawe View Stadium when Ashton United are the visitors for a 7.45pm kick-off. Tickets via the Shocal app.
