A 28-YEAR-OLD woman is 'lucky' to be alive after someone dropped a rock on her car from a motorway footbridge.

The woman was driving on the M60 anticlockwise near Sale Water Park at around 12.30pm on Wednesday last week when an unknown offender dropped the rock on her windscreen.

In the fast lane at the time, she braked as the windscreen shattered, but she soon regained control of her Renault Clio.

Police have said the woman is 'severely shocked', but she was not seriously injured in the incident.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident - 'more by luck than chance', according to police.

CCTV from the entrance to the footbridge shows a group of four men walking towards it before the rock was dropped.

A little later, two people on bicycles are seen crossing the footbridge.

Police are asking the groups to come forward to help the investigation.
