ALL but two areas of Trafford now have infection rates of over 400 cases per 100,000 people.

The borough is seeing some of the highest infection rates it has had since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

Now, the only two areas with comparatively lower rates are Urmston West and Davyhulme, with rates of 329.7 and 337.1 cases per 100,000 people respectively.

According to the government’s interactive Covid-19 map, the majority of the borough had rates between 400 cases per 100,000 people and 799 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending July 16.

But Sale East had an even higher one, becoming the new ‘hotspot’ of cases in the borough with a rate of 931.1 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 78 new cases were reported in Sale East in the week ending July 16, which is an increase of 30 from the number of new cases confirmed a week before.

There were 23 and 28 new cases found in Urmston West and Davyhulme respectively in that same week.

Outside Sale East, the next highest infection rate was in Altrincham West, Dunham and Warburton, which had a rate of 624.8 cases per 100,000 people and 61 new cases in the week ending July 16.

In Trafford, health bosses, GPs and some councillors have expressed the need for caution following the full easing of restrictions earlier this week across England.

One Altrincham GP urged residents not to be ‘complacent’ about coronavirus now restrictions have gone.

Similarly, director for public health Eleanor Roaf said living with coronavirus 'is nott the same as letting it run rampant and do what it wants'.
