TRAFFORD'S lankiest resident is one of the latest to benefit from the borough's vaccination programme.

Lancashire Cricket Club's mascot Lanky the Giraffe got a first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at Limelight Health and Wellbeing Hub in Old Trafford.

Staff at the hub on St Brides Way were initially stumped at the sight of their unconventional patient, but soon gathered themselves to get Lanky checked in.

After a short wait, Lanky was able to join more than 200,000 Trafford residents in getting the first dose.

He will return to the hub in eight weeks for a second dose, which around 120,000 have already received.

The experience was a painless one for Lanky, other than a slight bump on the head when leaving the hub.

And Councillor Jane Slater, Trafford Council's executive member for health, wellbeing and equalities, was full of praise for him.

She said: "Well done to Lanky for having his Covid jab, we're very proud of you.

"As we move towards the end of Covid restrictions, we would urge all adults in Trafford to follow in Lanky’s footsteps by having their vaccination now.

"Sadly we're now seeing an increase in Covid cases in Trafford.

"It's vital that people say yes to their vaccine for their own health and that of their friends and family. Vaccination will help us bring this pandemic to an end.

"Please also make sure you take your second dose as two vaccines offer maximum protection."

Anyone over the age of 18 is now eligible for a vaccination.
