A PUB in Sale is investigating after an abusive message to a staff member started circulating on social media.

In the message, allegedly from the assistant manager of The Kings Ransom on Britannia Road, the staff member was told she was 'useless', as well as being called 'dumb' and a swear word.

This came after the staff member told the assistant manager - who was celebrating his wedding - she was leaving her job at the pub.

The Messenger has removed the swear words from the message, which said: "It's my wedding day. I don't give a [swear word] if you're employed or not.

"And whilst we're doing this, as you have had the level of disrespect to message me, with this meaningless nonsense, ON MY WEDDING DAY, I would like to give you some home truths.

"You have no initiative.

"You are a vacuous poser.

"You are too focused on how you look and not what you do.

"You are a useless employee.

"You would rather text than do your job.

"You should be embarrassed about this.

"But hear my words. Because they will do you a favour.

"Nobody is interested in YOU.

"Your work ethics are the only things [that] matter.

"Focus on the job and stop focusing on yourself.

"Beauty will fade.

"Dumb [swear word] is forever."

On Sunday, after the message was shared on social media, the general manager of The Kings Ransom made a statement on Facebook.

She said: "I am aware of a message circulating on social media between a member of staff and my assistant manager.

"As the general manager of The Kings Ransom, I would like to assure you we take matters like this very serious and the matter is currently being investigated as a matter of urgency.

"I would like to apologise on behalf of The Kings Ransom for any distress caused."

The statement gained a lot of attention, with more than 1000 comments, some of which called for the assistant manager to be sacked.

An earlier version of this story referred to a comment saying the investigation was over, but The Messenger has since learned the comment came from a fake Facebook account.

In a later statement to The Messenger, a spokesperson for The Kings Ransom said: "It has come to our attention that a highly hurtful and malicious message was sent to one of our team by another member of staff.

"Our general manager is aware of this and she is investigating this matter urgently.

"We expect all our teams to treat each other with courtesy and respect and we are shocked and disappointed by the contents of the message that we have read.

"Since this incident began to gain traction on social media, there have been multiple fake accounts set up that claim to be people who work at the pub, which are posting Facebook comments to antagonise this situation further.

"These accounts are in no way related to the pub and we have reported them to Facebook so they can be removed as soon as possible."
