A SECONDARY school has spoken of its 'immense disappointment' after receiving a zero star hygiene rating following its most recent inspection.

According to an inspection carried out by the Food Standards Agency and Pendle Council on April 14, Colne Primet Academy’s food hygiene and safety was judged to be “bad”.

Structural compliance was “poor” and inspectors had “little” confidence in management, earning the school an overall food hygiene rating of zero.

However, the Dent Street school says that it is working to resolve the problems, with an external agency brought in to oversee the work.

A spokesperson for Pendle Education Trust, which runs the school, said: “Following our immense disappointment at the result of this inspection, we immediately rectified many of the points raised, undertook additional training and developed clear plans to resolve the points.

“We appointed a professional external agency, who have already been in school several times, to help ensure we now exceed all of the standards required.

“We look forward to welcoming the inspectors back into school very soon for them to regrade us.”

This comes as Pendle was found to be the East Lancashire borough with the most zero star rated for hygiene venues.

Colne Primet Academy around 950 pupils aged between 11 and 16 on roll.

Previously known as Colne Primet High School, it converted to academy status in 2013.

The Food Standards Agency conducts inspections across the borough with local councils to ensure that hygiene standards are maintained.

Venues are awarded ratings from five stars to zero based on the inspectors’ findings, with a zero rating indicates that urgent improvement is necessary.

The ratings provide a basic picture of the standards of hygiene found at the time of inspection.
