TRAFFORD residents have been asked to share their views on the future of the borough’s electoral wards.

The number of councillors is staying the same at 63, but their wards’ boundaries are under review by the Local Government Boundary Commission.

The commission’s aim is to make sure that there is a similar number of electors in each ward, and that each ward reflects its communities.

Residents now have a chance to share their views during a ten-week consultation, which started on June 15.

Professor Colin Mellors, chair of the commission, said: “We want people in Trafford to help us.

“We want our proposals for new electoral arrangements to reflect communities.

“We also want them to be easy to understand and convenient for local people.

“Residents and local organisations can help us understand community ties and identities at this early stage.”

Information of interest to the commission includes what facilities are shared by communities, like schools, leisure centres, shopping centres and parks.

They also want to know what issues are faced by communities, like heavy traffic.

Finally, the commission want to know if there are features like roads, railways or rivers which people consider to mark a boundary between communities.

The commission will use residents’ views to inform a proposal, which will then go back to consultation.
