FORMER soap favourite Wendi Peters is set to star in a theatre production of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Peters, 53, from Blackburn, shot to fame while portraying Cilla Battersby-Brown on Coronation Street between 2003 and 2007.

The adapted show will take place in October at Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford and will see another former Corrie star, Bill Ward, co-star alongside Peters.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a horror in which Ichabod Crane is reimagined as an English professor and turncoat during the Revolutionary War, who awakens in the 21st century and encounters the Headless Horseman, a felled mercenary who Crane had decapitated 250 years earlier.

The theatre's website says: "Coronation Street legends Wendi Peters and Bill Ward lead an incredible ensemble in this thrilling new adaptation.

"Transforming the American Dream into the American Gothic, Sleepy Hollow unleashes one of the most terrifying monsters from the horror canon – the Headless Horseman."

Peters, along with reprising her Cilla Battersby-Brown role briefly in 2014, has featured several times on television since her renowned departure from the cobbles to 'visit her son Chesney in Las Vegas'.

She has regularly portrayed roles in theatres across the UK, with notable leads in Northern Broadsides and White Christmas.

Ward, who played Corrie villain Charlie Stubbs during the same four-year period as Peters, went on to play James Barton in Emmerdale between 2013 and 2017 - his most recent role came last year in Ricky Gervais' revered Netflix show After Life.
