A PENSIONER was rushed to hospital after a car crashed into a wall on a main road yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Golborne Road in Winwick at around 4.15pm on Thursday, May 6, after the accident near to the Swan pub.

Cheshire Police say that a grey Vauxhall Grandland collided with a wall, with the driver – a man in his 70s – having been taken to hospital for treatment.

The road was closed between the junctions with the A49 Newton Road and Hornby Road for a period before fully reopening at roughly 6.30pm.

A force spokesman said: “Officers were called at around 4.15pm on Thursday, May 6, to Golborne Road following reports that a grey Vauxhall Grandland had collided with a wall.

“The driver of the car, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital for treatment.

“A full road closure was in place at the junction of the A49.”
