Just two of East Lancashire's boroughs have recorded increases in their coronavirus infection rates, although one of those areas still has the highest rate in the whole country.

Hyndburn and Blackburn with Darwen have both seen a rise in their rates as 98 new cases were detected in Hyndburn and 81 new cases in Blackburn with Darwen in the seven days to May 2.

Hydburn still has the highest rate of infection with 120.9 cases per 100,000 people

Rates in Burnley and Rossendale remained the same, while Pendle and the Ribble Valley registered decreases in their rates.

Elsewhere in the county, five of the remaining boroughs - Preston, Lancaster, South Ribble, Wyre and Blackpool also recorded increases, although rates remain below 40 cases per 100,000 people in the seven days to May 2. 

Of the 315 local areas in England, 93 have seen a rise in rates, 209 have seen a fall and 13 are unchanged.

Bolton in Greater Manchester has the second highest rate, up from 48.0 to 85.2, with 245 new cases.

Erewash in Derbyshire has the third highest, up from 11.3 to 65.0, with 75 new cases.
