PLANS for a controversial relief road in Carrington have caused upset for residents and the parish council who say they’re being ‘ignored’.

Community group Friends of Carrington Moss have joined forces with Carrington Parish Council over Trafford Council’s handling of the situation.

Two possible routes for the relief road, designed to take traffic away from the village’s severe congestion, were released by Trafford Council earlier this month:

Option A – 4.5km long, starts at A6144 junction with Manchester road, travels along full length of existing A1 route, turns north where A1 meets Isherwood Road, travels on to the Carrington Lane/Isherwood Road junction before turning east to join Carrington Spur.

Option F – uses the entire length of the existing A1 route through industrial estate until Isherwood Road junction, before crossing Carrington Moss’ open fields, avoiding pylons and joining Carrington Spur to the east.

An initial question-and-answer session was held between the council’s consultants, Friends of Carrington Moss and Carrington Parish Council earlier this month.

But Liz Harvey, of the parish council, slammed the plans. Ms Harvey said: “It’s just going to attract more traffic, it’s ridiculous. They even said in the meeting that it might not be fit for purpose.."

Cllr James Wright, executive member for housing and regeneration at Trafford Council, said: “It is clear that doing nothing is not an option, as Carrington and Partington can’t suffer much longer with such poor connectivity."
