OVER 700 new coronavirus cases have been detected across East Lancashire.

Data released on Thursday evening reveals all six boroughs recorded at least 50 new cases in the latest 24-hour period.

The highest number of new cases came from Blackburn with Darwen, where 212 new infections brought the boroughs total since the start of the pandemic to 13,905.

Burnley recorded the second highest number, 159, and has now recorded a total of 7,898 cases.

In Pendle, 121 new infections were detected, meaning the borough has now reported a total of 7,655 cases.

There were 101 new positive cases in Hyndburn, where 5,848 infections have been recorded in total.

Rossendale recorded 72 new cases bringing the borough’s total to 4,779.

The fewest cases came from the Ribble Valley, 59, where a total of 3,457 infections have now been detected.
