A 50-YEAR-old man was spotted walking down a main road performing a sex act before boarding a train.

Gregory Coleman even carried on with the act in a police cell after being arrested under caution, the magistrates' court heard.

Prosecutor Angela Blackmore, addressing magistrates on Wednesday, said a 'shocked' woman was driving down Birchfield Road in Widnes on October 20 at 1.05pm when she spotted Coleman.

She was concerned that he was heading in the direction of a school - but there is no evidence to say this was his intention.

She called the police and as she watched him in her rear view mirror, it was apparent he was still performing the crude act.

Ms Blackmore told the court that Coleman headed to Widnes station and boarded a train.

Police officers then arrested Coleman under caution at when he exited the train at Warrington Central station.

After being interviewed, Coleman was placed in the cells, where he appeared to continue with his behaviour, Ms Blackmore added.

John Farnan, defending Coleman, said his client entered a guilty plea to the offence and has 'no great recollection' of it.

Mr Farnan added that nobody was specifically targeted during the incident.

Coleman, of Wilderspool Causeway in Warrington, was also in breach of a 18-month conditional discharge for possessing cocaine in 2019.

Magistrates, chaired by Andrew Brothers, sentenced Coleman to a two-year community order, including 20 days of rehabilitation

He was also ordered to sign on to the sex offender register for five years, and fined £80 plus court costs.
