A new podcast has been launched to shine a light on emerging creative talent from Bolton and beyond.

Starts and Grafts features conversations with artists who are starting out their careers against the backdrop of the covid-19 pandemic.

The podcast is the brain child of Connor Guffogg, from Horwich, and Ella McCallum, who he met at university in Leeds.

Connor currently works as an arts administrator, however, growing up he was involved with Bolton Music Service and Bolton Amateur Theatre.

Drawing on connections made at these groups, he's now interviewing musicins, writers and other creatives for the weekly podcast.

Connor said: "During lockdown it seemed like of a lot of the people I knew who were artists are creatives were struggling with the restrictions.

"I felt it was an interesting time and thought it would be good for them to share their experiences.

"With the podcast we want to show that there's creativity outside of London.

"I'm incredibly passionate about the talent Bolton has to offer, I think being on the fringe of Manchester we have so many amazing artists."

Episodes are released every Sunday and this week's conversation is with singer Rebecca Bolton.

Rebecca talks about her experience going from amateur productions in Bolton to performing in the Les Miserable Live Tour.

Connor said:"We talk about the journey these people have been on and we give a shout out to the places and people that helped them get there, such as local theatre groups.

"There's been a lot of talk in recent months that the arts is just not a viable industry to go into, but this is just not true.

"As well as talking to emergeing artists, each week we share a top tip from an established performer.

"The podcast helps bridge that gap between those at the start of the careers and established artists."

The Starts and Grafts podcast is available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
